Travel Myths: Is It Really Cheaper to Book Airfare on Tuesdays?
Consumer World Original
Last week, a federal judge gave the go ahead to a group of consumers to continue their case against Amazon. These shoppers claimed that the instant refunds they were granted right after dropping off goods at official Amazon return desks (like at UPS, Kohl's, or Staples) were later reversed.
That story is in Mouse Print* this week.
May 2 marked the date that the $800 de minimis tax exemption on imports from China expired. That means the 120%-145% tariff is in effect. How has this affected prices? Bloomberg offers a dozen examples where the tax/import charge is greater than the cost of the item at Temu. That, and a NYT story demonstrating that prices would more than double at Temu, got them to now only ship goods from the US that they imported months ago before the tariffs hit. The prices at Shein, the low-cost clothing seller, have jumped up to 377% according to Daily Beast.
According to a survey of over 4,000 shoppers, Lidl (like Aldi) is the number one grocery store for value. Others on the list include Winco and Market Basket. Here's the full list. We dispute putting Wegmans on the list -- they are outrageously priced after once upon a time offering very good values.
National consumer reporter Jeff Rossen presents a list of items big and small that you better buy now before their price goes up because of new tariffs. The current store inventory of many items was purchased before the tariffs hit, so they may be available at the old price.
