Don't Ask Your Smart Device for a Company Phone Number

smart speaker Many a scam starts if you Google a company's phone number because scammers have created phony websites listing their own number instead of the one for the real company. Now the same advice holds true for using your smart speaker or Siri, Alexa, or Google Assistant for obtaining a company's phone number. Don't do it. The BBB reports consumers think they are speaking to an airline or other reputable company, but in fact it is a scam to get money from you. How Much Will Those "Free iPhone 15" Offers Really Cost You?

iPhone 15 When the new iPhone 15 debuted in September, all the major carriers launched promotions offering this $799 cellphone for free. Of course, there were some catches. You had to trade-in a pretty recent phone, and sign up for a pretty pricey two or three-year service plan. The NY Times figured out how much this will cost you -- between $2,400 - $3,200! We figure doing it on the cheap with an unlimited plan from Visible (owned by Verizon) for $25 a month and a $300 trade-in for your old phone from a third party, you could get an iPhone 15 (full price) with service for three years for $1399. If you don't need unlimited data, you could easily pay under $1,000. And if you didn't need the latest and greatest iPhone, you can save a bundle with a cheaper Pixel, Samsung, or Moto.
