Safeway shoppers are mad as hell and not going to take it anymore. They are suing the company for what they allege are deceptive buy one, get one free (BOGO) sales. Consumers claim the store doubles the price of the first item in order to give away the second item free.

A CNET reporter wanted to see how prices of store brand items at Trader Joe's compared to those at a conventional supermarket. She checked about four dozen common items and found that Trader Joe's was substantially less expensive than similar items at Stop & Shop, a big Northeast supermarket chain. Many major grocers use loyalty cards and digital coupons to offer discounts. In exchange for that, they can track a lot of information about you. A USA Today reporter asked Kroger and Food Lion for a copy of the data they collected on her and she shares it with readers. Kroger had 31 pages of data on her, and Food Lion used her information to classify her "among the nation's least affluent, striving to make ends meet."
After he sold his house, this Washington state senior was sitting pretty with a lot of cash in the bank until crooks convinced him he could parlay that into more. His daughter faults the bank for not raising some concerns when her father made repeated withdrawals of $200,000.
