Mass. Supermarkets Found Skirting New Pricing and Scanner Law

aisle scanner In Massachusetts, if grocery sellers opt to no longer put prices on items, they must install self-service price check scanners in store aisles for customer use. And they have to post a price guarantee at each checkout notifying customers who are overcharged that they are entitled to the item free. Consumer World checked stores' compliance with the new law, finding almost half the scanners either didn't work or didn't comply with all the requirements. Full report with photos [pdf].
