Mass. Supermarkets Found Skirting New Pricing and Scanner Law

aisle scanner In Massachusetts, if grocery sellers opt to no longer put prices on items, they must install self-service price check scanners in store aisles for customer use. And they have to post a price guarantee at each checkout offering the item free if the consumer is overcharged. Consumer World checked stores' compliance with the new law, finding almost half the scanners either didn't work or didn't comply with all the requirements. Full report with photos [pdf].

Car Makers Ranked; More New Cars Have Defects

car J.D. Power questioned over 86,000 new car owners about their experiences during the first 90 days of ownership of a 2014 car. Defects discovered increased about three-percent compared to 2013 models. The company also ranked car manufacturers with the fewest defects to those with the most defects reported. Porsche, Jaguar, and Lexus owners reported the fewest problems, while Fiat by a large margin had the most defects.
