Consumer World Exclusive Caught Slipping Expensive Service Contracts into Appliance Orders, Now Abandons Policy

frig Consumer World discovered that was slipping expensive five-year service contracts into shoppers' carts as soon as a major appliance was added by the customer. As a result, unaware shoppers may have inadvertently paid for plans they never requested. One day after Consumer World expressed its concerns, Sears reversed course, and changed their website to require customers to affirmatively choose a protection plan only if they want one.
