Year-end Strategies to Cut Your Taxes'Tis the season to shuffle your finances in order to take deductions now, and move income into 2009 when Obama's lowered tax rates might save you money. Here are year-end tax tips from the Wall Street Journal.The Legal Conspiracy to Keep Products from Being Discounted You may think we live in a free market society where stores can compete for your business based on price, service, or both. The fact is that some retailers are prevented from discounting certain products by the manufacturers of those goods -- and the Supreme Court ruled last year that that is not automatically illegal. The manufacturer can set "minimum advertised prices" (MAP) below which retailers cannot advertise in a scheme called "resale price maintenance (RPM)." This issue is finally heating up (see video and story) because consumer advocates and some discounters are finally complaining that this leads to higher prices. On the other side, you have manufacturers employing Internet spying companies to report on discounters who advertise items at prices too low for the manufacturer's taste (and intimidate them into raising their prices). Some net sellers still find a way to discount. [Each link is a different story.]Which HDTVs are Most Reliable?
